That’s one career all females have in common – whether we like it or not – being a woman. Sooner or later we’ve all got to work at it, no matter what other careers we’ve had or wanted… and, in the last analysis, nothing is any good unless you can look up just before dinner or turns around in bed – and there he is. Without that, you’re not woman. You’re something with a French provincial office or a book full of clippings – but you’re not a woman… slow curtain. The end.

Além de muitas óperas, o baixo-barítono (e maestro) Sir Willard White (1946) tem uma bonita e interessante interpretação para Bidin’ my time que vale a pena ser compartilhada porque é um Gershwin, por causa da *risada*, devido ao solo de gaita e porque ao falar sobre o que se vai fazer no próximo ano e este ano tem a ver com este início de 2008.

Para quem ainda não o conhecia, proponho um jogo: preste atenção em seu título e nome: Sir Willard White. Agora, depois que ouviu sua voz e a risada, imagine como ele é, então clique aqui para conhecê-lo e checar se bateu com o que você imaginou.
Ah, aproveitando, conheça a jukebox dos irmãos Gershwin. É só entrar no site, pular a introdução e clicar em jukebox. Tem Peter Gabriel, Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday com Embraceable you, John Pizzarelli com But not for me e beeeeem mais.
Ah2, também não poderia esquecer da homenagem que Woody Allen fez aos irmãos Gershwins com o filme Manhattan (1979). A excelente trilha sonora deste filme, além de introdução à música de George e Ira Gershwin, ressalta e enriquece cenas memoráveis.
Por exemplo, quando Isaac (Woody Allen) *se dá conta de algo* e corre com Strike Up The Band para ofegante chegar ao prédio de Tracy *Minnie Mouse* (Mariel Hemingway) ao som da belíssima But not for me. Repare, no video abaixo quando se dá a quebra de ritmo com/através das duas músicas, aproximadamente no intervalo 0:20–0:30. É por detalhes como estes, tão sutis, que Allen é genial (no sentido de gênio mesmo).

No video acima dá para perceber a mudança de ritmo porém, la gran final, quando Rhapsody in blue é retomada e os créditos, quando Embraceable you entra, são cortados.
Já este video, embora corte boa parte do diálogo — começa quando Isaac questiona o tempo que Tracy vai ficar em Londres: “Six months, are you kidding?! Six months you’re gonna go for?!” — tem um audio bem melhor e dá para ouvir com clareza quando Tracy diz uma das frases mais tocantes: “Six months isn’t so long. Not everyone gets corrupted. You have to have a little faith in people”. E Isaac já não tem mais nada a dizer, fica calado por vários segundos balançando a cabeça enquanto um violino parece lhe dizer: “Ouviu isso?”. Então ele sorri e a música de George Gershwin (Rhapsody in blue) fecha a cena.
